About

I call this “ghockeymom’s blog” as for so many years I defined myself as as a hockey mom.  It came about as Skip (my hubby) and I set up our first emails somewhere around 1997 and chose ghockeymom and ghockeydad as our usernames…..because we were the ultimate hockey mom and dad.  John Michael was a natural on the ice….which brings me to the why of this blog.  On October 11, 2009, our world changed forever.  This is the day that John Michael left us, never to return except in memory, spirit and every thought that crosses our mind.  I’ve spent days wondering how I can continually live in a way that honors his life.  I’ve wanted to blog as it was someone else’s blog that I think became the turning point for us to survive.  But, what would I blog?  Just my thoughts?  Around the first of September, I began remembering all of  the people who made a difference in John Michael’s life – who helped mold him into the wonderful person he was.  It was then I thought I want to thank each and every one.  At first, I thought I would write letters to all, but then I also know how important it is for us to now help others as they journey through this pain that only a parent who has lost a child knows….and, what better way to do this than to share my journey.  So, if you follow me on this journey, remember that while I may be shedding tears as I write, my heart is filled with joy that I knew John Michael as my son and my friend…….my bright and shining star.

  1. Hi, Marsha. I nominated you for the Liebster Blog Award. Read about the Liebster on my recent post and have fun sharing the positive energy with fellow bloggers. It means a lot to read your thoughts and stories about John Michael. Thank you for sharing these most personal stories with us.
